1. Kandla Port
- State – Gujarat
- Constructed in the 1950
- Kandla port was built after partition as the Karachi port on western coast had gone to Pakistan.
2. Paradip Port
- State – Odisha
- 12 March 1966
- It was the first major port on East Coast commissioned in independent India.
3. Jawaharlal Nehru Port
- Location: Mumbai, Maharashtra
- Constructed on May 26, 1989
- It is also known as Nhava Sheva and is the largest container port in India
4. Mumbai Port
- State –Maharashtra
- Established as a corporation on June 26, 1873
- One of the oldest modern ports of India. Initially the location was used by navies of Shivaji.
5. Visakhapatnam Port
- State – Andhra Pradesh
- Inaugurated on December 19,1933
- Vizag port is known for bulk of Cargo handling on east coast.
6. Chennai Port
- Location: Chennai (Madras), Tamilnadu
- Opened in1881
- Chennai Port, formerly known as Madras Port.
7. Kolkata Port
- Location– Kolkata, West Bengal
- Opened in 1870
- Only riverine major port in India.
8. Mangalore Port
- Location: Mangaluru, Karnataka
- Opened: 4 May 1974
- New Mangaluru Port is a deep-water, all-weather port.
10. V.O.Chidambaranar Port
- Location: Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu
- Declared to be a major port on 11 July 1974
- This port has been now renamed as V.O.Chidambaranar Port
11. Ennore Port
- State – Chennai, Tamil Nadu
- Founded: 1999
- This port is now named as Kamarajar Port Limited.
12. Cochin Port
- State – Willingdon Island, Kochi, Kerala
- Opened: 26 May 1928
- The port is called natural gateway to the vast industrial and agricultural produce markets of the South-West India.
13. Mormugao Port
- State – Goa
- Opened: 1963
- It is the leading iron ore exporting port of India.
